HISTORY OF THE BUSINESS
1stGeneration - WR "Butter Bill" Jones
WR Jones created the business in 1920's. He took a mail order course in auctioneering and went on from there.
He sold everything from house hold items to livestock. WR also did all of his own clerking and cashing while selling!
2ndGeneration - Harold "HT" Jones
Harold Jones graduated from the Reppert School of Auctioneering in Decatur, Indiana in 1945.
He, like his father sold something of everything. In addition to conducting his own auctions, Harold worked at Newman's Livestock auction in Newport for over 25 years. He also worked at the East Winfield Sale Barn for over 20 years as well as at Burton's Livestock Auction in Vernon
for 35 years. Harold has been a member of the New York State Auctioneers Assocition (NYSAA) for many years and was named to the NYS Auctioneers Hall of Fame in 1988.
3rdGeneration - R. Thomas Jones
R. Tom also graduated from Reppert School of Auctioneering in 1965. He took over the business from Harold in 1980. In addition to the auction business, he was also a full time 6th grade teacher for many years.
Now retired from teaching, he focuses much of his time on the auction business. Like his father Harold, Tom has been a longtime member of NYSAA. He served on the board of directors and was secretary/treasurer for 3 years
4thGeneration - Mark and Ryan Jones
Mark and Ryan are continuing in thier father's footsteps. Mark graduated from The Worldwide College of Auctioneering in 1998. Ryan graduated from auctioneering school in 2004. Both are teachers, Ryan 7th grade Earth Science Biology
for Mount Markham and Mark secondary Business for Mount Markham.
